Wichita Student Technology Leadership

girlThe Instructional Technology Department (ITD) encourages all schools to consider, plan, implement and support an organization for Wichita Student Technology Leadership (WSTL). The purpose of the team can be determined at each site. Usually teams begin by focusing on one or more of the areas including troubleshooting, hardware support, software support, and/or web development.

Each organization should utilize the expertise within its school. Multiple models for implementation are used within our state. Some groups meet within the school day and others meet outside the school day. Start small with a few students. Consider beginning with four to six students in activities related to available technology resources within your school. The creation of team identity is very important. Allow the student team to design and create methods to show their identity within the school setting and outside of the school environment. Many ideas and activities are currently in place within our district.
Growing a STL program—How?

Each school year ITD sponsors an event for the Elementary ITD sponsored WSTL teams to meet and share what is happening within their WSTL team.

ITD sponsors a end of the year event for the Elementary ITD sponsored WSTL teams to gather and share ideas.  This years "Tech Fest 08" event will be held on April 23, 2008 at the JFISC building.  Here students will get the opportunity to share their ideas and projects, participate in mini-learning workshops and be exposed to a conference setting activity. Check back for pictures of the "Tech Fest 08".

The Secondary ITD sponsored WSTL teams will participate in the annual Kansas Student Technology Leadership competition being held at the K-State Student Union in Manhattan on April 30, 2008. These students will board a chartered bus for the ride to Manhattn where they will present what they have created and show off their knowledge and use of technology. USD259 will have 13 secondary schools representing our district at this very important competition.  Check back for pictures and competition results of the KSTL competition!

Visit the schools web sites listed on the ITD Sponsored WSTL Sites and see what is happening with some of the WSTL organizations within our school district.
