Clickers

The use of clickers across the district has increased dramatically over the past year. Teachers are using these systems for everything from daily snapshots of student learning to gathering district-wide data on student results on common assessments. This technology can help teachers make data-driven decisions in their classrooms.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a Clicker?

A clicker is another word for a student response system. It is a device similar to a remote control that allows teachers to solicit feedback from students in a classroom. This feedback is then organized into various charts and reports to monitor student progress. Clickers are being used in USD 259 for everyday instruction in the classroom as well as to administer the Math Course II common assessments. Clickers are sold in 24 or 32 pad systems. A clicker system includes the student response pads, a receiver, and software to write and administer questions.

What is the difference between an IR clicker and an RF clicker?

An IR clicker utilizes infrared technology. It is similar to a TV remote. The clicker must communicate with the receiver by line of site; in other words, the student must point the clicker towards the receiver to send his/her response. IR clickers require the use of a digital projector and can be used with true/false or multiple choice questions. IR clickers are the most popular choice for everyday use in the classroom.

An RF clicker uses radio frequency technology. Is looks similar to a calculator, as it has an LCD screen for students to view their response before submitting. The clicker does not need to be pointed at the receiver to send a response. The RF clicker is the choice for district common assessments. Students take the assessments on paper and pencil, then enter their responses into the response pad. RF clickers do not require the use of a projector.
